Comprehensible Input vs Active Reading

Comprehensible input is language you can mostly understand. Active reading starts there but adds output: you look up blockers, save useful vocabulary, read aloud, and speak about the text.

The difference

ApproachMain focus
Comprehensible inputUnderstand lots of meaningful language
Active readingUnderstand, retrieve, and speak from the text

Use both

Input builds intuition. Active reading makes that intuition visible by asking you to say something with the words and ideas you just met.
